Top 10 Full Court Peace Stories Of 2016

by Wendell Maxey

It is hard to believe another year has come and gone already.

As we look ahead to what should be an exciting upcoming year at Full Court Peace, we also wanted to take a minute to reflect on these past 12 months and say thank you to everyone who has helped support our cause and efforts through basketball here at FCP. We appreciate the hard work, dedication and chance to give back to our communities and kids along the way.

Here are the Top 10 stories that made news here at Full Court Peace in 2016…

  1. Our FCP Holiday T-Shirt fundraiser was a huge success thanks to you and our partners, Wilson Basketball, Next Basket Wins and Bruno DiFabio. Not only did we "sell through" all T-Shirts, but we also gifted a large amount of Wilson basketballs on your behalf, as underprivileged kids from Norwalk and Bridgeport experienced first-hand the meaning of giving and giving back this holiday season.

  2. We are grateful for all of our FCP Ambassador’s who help share our message and take part in our outreach programs at FCP. We are also thrilled to welcome Harvard alum and current overseas pro guard, Brandyn Curry who takes us inside his journey around the game and how basketball has given him so much. Now it’s Brandyn’s turn to give back.

  3. Add another court refurbishment to our growing list, this time in Danbury. Wilton High School Club raised nearly $5,000 to make the court restoration possible and we couldn’t be more proud of all of the kids who helped organize the fundraiser, clean up and paint the court in Danbury.

  4. Here is to another 10 years…look back on 10 years of Full Court Peace as we united communities and cultures from Connecticut, to Belfast, Mexico and Cuba through basketball, our court restoration projects, basketball camps and year-round fundraisers. To help commemorate the anniversary, we launched our FCP10 microsite and provided you the chance to get more involved through our donation options.

  5. Also, part of commemorating 10 years of Full Court Peace included our outreach trip to Belfast. FCP Ambassadors traveled to Northern Ireland, conduct basketball outreach sessions, competed in tournament games and explored historic Belfast, while celebrating a decade of Full Court Peace.

  6. Back in July, our Full Court Peace Basketball Camp took place in New Canaan with stories featured on kids and counselors from different racial and economical backgrounds who helped make the whole camp possible.

  7. We can’t forget about our FCP Shoe Drive….Wilton High School rising Senior and varsity basketball captain Matt Kronenberg led donation efforts for Full Court Peace by gathering used sneakers that were distributed to kids in Cuba during our summer outreach trip.

  8. So often we tell you about our FCP events and mission trips to Cuba, but this was our chance to "show you". Filmmaker Chuck Schwarzbeck [takes us behind the lens](Filmmaker Chuck Schwarzbeck takes us behind the lens in documenting and capturing scenes that both shows and tells about the impact Full Court Peace has made in Cuba. Take a look for yourself. "") in documenting and capturing scenes that both shows and tells about the impact Full Court Peace has made in Cuba.

  9. We launched our "Get To Know" series… your chance to meet the people within Full Court Peace — from Board Members, to the extensive staffs at mission trip locations and those who work behind the scenes — and the part they play in carrying out the vision of Full Court Peace.

  10. Remembering AJ Cina…his story lives on from Weston, Connecticut to Cuba.
